March 2013:  The American Academy of Orthopedic Society (AAOS) just presented:

Large Randomized Trial Confirms Value of PRP for Chronic Tennis Elbow

The largest study to date on Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) was presented at AAOS. The data showed an 84% success rate using PRP compared to a 68% using an active control at six months. (P = 0.012) The PRP patients also had much less elbow tenderness compared to controls at that time frame. Only 29% of PRP patients had significant tenderness compared to 54% in the control group (P < 0.001)

They had 204 patients split between steroid injection OR PRP.  At three months, the PRP group had less pain and greater motion.  At one year, the PRP group were 16 times less likely to have had surgery.  They concluded that PRP is safe and a cost effective treatment alternative to steroid injection for rotator cuff pain.
